Deaf-Mute Evidence

In this 1936 case a witness gave evidence using sign language which was interpreted, although we don’t know who the interpreter was.

—–TRANSCRIPT—–

Giving evidence in the deaf and dumb sign language through an interpreter, Richard Cecil Lynch, at Central Police Court yesterday, said that on August 21 at Thompson’s Bay he saw Albert Davis strike William Terence Doherty.

Davis was committed for trial on £50 bail on a charge of assaulting Doherty and occasioning him actual bodily harm. It was alleged that Doherty’s jaw had been fractured in two places.
