Mystery: Mystery Film in the Tasmanian Archives

Mystery Film in the Tasmanian Archives

Calling all lovers of Tasmanian Deaf History!

The Tasmanian Archives has a film called “Deaf and Dumb”. It is one of those old, old 16mm black and white films, apparently created in 1972. Here is the record on the Archives catalogue: https://libraries.tas.gov.au/Record/Archives/AB869-1-719

The Tasmanian Archives does not have a viewing copy so we aren’t able to see it and we don’t know whether it is worth paying for them to make a copy to see.

Do you have any clues about the video? What might be on it? Could it be a film of the deaf school or a Deaf Society event in 1972? Were there any deaf filmmakers in Tasmania in the 1970s?

Welcome to the Deaf History Collections

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of Country throughout Australia and pay our respects to Elders past and present. We extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander visitors to our site, recognising the long, rich, complex and unjustly disregarded histories of First Nations peoples in Australia.
